leicestershire police choose shogun above the rest

The Leicestershire Constabulary has purchased four Mitsubishi Shoguns to replace its existing fleet of 4x4 vehicles. The long-wheel-base 3.2 litre Turbo Diesel engine model was selected above all others in its class to join the force and undertake motorway patrol duties within the county.

Having recently undergone compliance testing by the National Association of Police Fleet Mangers, the Mitsubishi Shogun surpassed the standard required for it to be come an approved 4x4 classification Police vehicle.

Peter Ward, Chairman of the NAPFM and Fleet Manager of the Leicestershire Constabulary, was impressed with the Shogun’s ability in testing for the county’s fleet:

"Our choice of vehicle is very important. It has to comply with strict criteria which includes; performance, handling, economy, reliability, comfort, cost and its all round ability to do the job. The Mitsubishi Shogun ably complies with all of these requirements and having been evaluated against other 4x4s, was chosen as the most suitable vehicle fort he force’s motorway patrol units."

Mr. Ward explained that the Shogun offers good value for money and went on to outline its other advantages:

"The diesel engine will provide low running costs, plus it delivers the mid range torque and power that is required. Mitsubishi has a good reputation for reliability and by offering us a three year unlimited mileage warranty shows it has confidence in its products."

The procuring of the Shoguns also marks the first time police have chosen a motorway patrol 4x4 vehicle with an automatic gearbox, Mitsubishi’s optional manual-shift automatic transmission impressing during the tests.

Three of the four Shoguns will feature full Police livery and be fitted with specialist lighting and emergency equipment, the installation of these items assisted by the LWB model’s load carrying capacity.

In addition to regular motorway patrol duties, the vehicles will be assigned to attend incidents quickly and effectively. When the need arises they will also be required to remove obstructions from the carriageway, a task that will utilise the Shoguns impressive towing ability.
